In-game view of Awaji Island hills, trees, and open grassland under a bright sky

Warlord: Awaji is a single-player immersive strategy game from Darkmatter Games, released on Steam on 9 September 2026. You stand on the island as a samurai warlord, not above a map. Recruit named warriors, form an army, pitch a mobile camp, and fight in first person while convoys and rival bands move in real time. New players should start with the getting started guide, then learn controls and the weapons tier list.

Quick start

Five steps from first boot to a marching retinue.

  1. 1

Launch and finish the homestead tutorial

Boot the campaign and walk the nearby homestead the game highlights. Patch vR101 moved you closer and renamed the objective so you do not attack the wrong farm. Details live in the getting started guide.

  2. 2

    Learn block, thrust, and stamina

Attacks do not drain stamina; blocking does. Look at a target and strike, then tap block immediately. Block then attack becomes a thrust. Drill this on the combat page and the controls list.

  3. 3

Recruit, promote, and drop a formation

Named warriors gain experience in the field. Conquered land funds promotions and a larger retinue. Use the drag-and-drop formation menu to split melee, bows, and cavalry as covered in the army guide.

  4. 4

    Pitch camp before night raids

Place tents, food, rest, fences, and night guards, then pack up when the front moves. The camp building guide explains when to stay put and when to relocate.

  5. 5

Take shrines, not every roadside brawl

Capture rival shrines to swing spiritual aura, pick strongpoints that starve enemy reaction forces, and save the walkthrough for the first island push in the conquest guide and campaign walkthrough.
