Warlord: Awaji Guides

How to fight, recruit, camp, and take Awaji without wasting your first retinue.

Guides Hub

This hub is the map of every practical Warlord: Awaji guide on the wiki. The game launched on Steam on 9 September 2026 as a full single-player release from Darkmatter Games, not Early Access and not a browser title. You stand on Awaji Island in first person, recruit named samurai, pitch a camp that can move, and join the fighting yourself.

If you just installed the game, open the getting started guide before you roam. Patch vR101 already had to pull new warlords closer to the tutorial homestead and rename “capture the farm” to “capture the nearby homestead,” which tells you how easy it is to attack the wrong settlement on day one.

Start here

  • Getting started — first boot, homestead tutorial, what to spend early land on.
  • Controls — movement, attack, block, sheathing, radar, and the formation menu.
  • Combat — stamina, thrusts, weak spots, and why polearms beat a naked tachi.

Those three pages cover the deaths most launch-week players are posting about: swinging forever in a crowd, blocking until stamina dies, and walking past the homestead the tutorial actually wants.

Command the army, not only your sword

Warlord: Awaji is sold as immersive strategy. The sword is real, but the campaign is won by a retinue that eats, sleeps, and holds a line when you are looking the other way.

  • Army and formations — recruiting, promotions, drag-and-drop groups, melee versus bows versus cavalry.
  • Camp building — tents, food, fences, night guards, and when to pack up.
  • Bow and cavalry — five arrow types, horseback AI, and the yabusame track leftover from the demo.

Read army and camp as a pair. A pretty formation still starves if the camp has no rest or watch. A perfect camp still loses if you never promote leaders off conquered land.

Take the island

  • Conquest — homesteads, forts, shrines, spiritual aura, and warrior monks.
  • Awaji map — 16 km heightmap, hundred-plus settlements, six clans, no Total War overlay.
  • Campaign walkthrough — a conservative first push across the heightmap island.
  • Instant Action — flags, tickets, and the skirmish that is not the campaign.
  • Vs Britannia — what actually changed from the Roman game.
  • Review — who this sequel to Warlord: Britannia is for, and who should wait.

The open world is built from real Awaji height data and dotted with temples and shrines that exist in real life. Civilian convoys and warrior bands share the roads with you. Local clans react to what you burn. That is why this hub keeps combat, camp, and conquest in separate pages instead of one giant essay.

Gear and patches

When a guide tells you to equip someone, jump to the weapons tier list and the unit composition page. When a tutorial prompt looks wrong, check patch notes — vR101 already changed homestead distance, starting resources, and the pause clock.

Steam lists the game as single-player with Steam Cloud and 57 achievements. Minimum PC spec is a 9th-gen Intel i5, 16 GB RAM, and a GTX 2060; the system requirements page spells out the rest.

How to use this wiki

Every guide page is written for a search someone actually types: how to play, how to block, how to recruit, how to pitch camp, how to take a shrine. Internal links use plain names, not naked URLs. If a sentence points at another page, that page exists.

Official files still live on Steam, the Darkmatter Discord, and darkmattergames.com. This site is unofficial. When a patch changes a tutorial string, we update the updates hub first, then the guide that taught the old string.

If the tutorial or the first enemy column is eating you, open troubleshooting before you reinstall. Save the game. There is no autosave.

If you only open three links after this hub, make them getting started, combat, and army and formations. That order matches the first evening of a real campaign: survive the homestead, stop dying in melee, then grow a retinue that can take the next hill.
