Warlord: Awaji Troubleshooting

The launch-week snags Steam is already posting about, and what to do before you reinstall.

Troubleshooting

Warlord: Awaji launched on Steam on 9 September 2026. Darkmatter pinned Common Issues and a Game FAQ on the community hub the night before. This page does not replace those pins. It translates the failures people keep repeating in discussions into play advice that matches the rest of this wiki. If your problem is a crash dump, go to Steam and Discord. If your problem is “the tutorial will not tick” or “21 men walked my road,” stay.

The campaign is single-player. There is no second player to blame. Save the file yourself.

There is no autosave

Launch reviews said it in all caps. Do not wait for a camp prompt. Save before a road fight, before a shrine, before you pack the camp, and after vR101’s homestead capture. Cloud exists. Autosave does not. Losing an hour to the first enemy column is the most common avoidable death on this page.

Tutorial stuck at the homestead (including “6/9”)

Patch vR101 exists because the tutorial lied. It pulled the spawn closer, renamed “capture the farm” to “capture the nearby homestead,” dropped the distance check to 70 meters, and made capture / charge / battle-mode non-sequential so capturing first no longer soft-locks. Walk to the highlighted homestead. Confirm it is the nearby one. If an old video still says farm, ignore it. Full order is on getting started.

If the prompt still will not tick after an update, you are on the wrong roof or you never entered the 70 m bubble. Get closer. Do not start a second settlement to “force” the script.

The first army attack

Players report an early column that outnumbers a fresh retinue — one post said 21 incoming against 11 at camp. That is the island, not a broken spawn table. Do not treat it like Instant Action tickets. Save first. Use the army formation: melee front, you on the hinge, no blob. Polearm off the dirt. If you cannot win, you marched too early or you never packed a watch. Camp and combat are the two pages that belong next to that save.

Resources, archers, materials

Launch threads ask where to collect materials and where archers come from. Awaji is not a Britannia wood-cutting loop. Visible economy is camp food, rest, watch, and stores you capture. Bows and horses are army composition, not a crafting node. Read bow and cavalry and unit composition. Do not wander the map looking for a hidden quarry.

Head-taking and burning villages

“Why was head taking removed?” and “is there a reason to burn?” are pinned-adjacent questions. Demo XP used a kubijikken-style presentation. Later notes already stopped paying you for killing injured or surrendered allies. Do not farm friends. Burning is a tool with unrest. Random razing teaches clans to hate you. Conquest is the rule. Britannia comparison is why old habits fail here.

FPS, V-Sync, gamepads

Next Fest already saw uncapped menu FPS. Enable V-Sync in options. Specs are on system requirements. Steam Deck is unsupported. Gamepad threads exist at launch; Darkmatter’s store listing is a keyboard-and-mouse first-person campaign. If a pad works, treat it as extra, not as a promise. Bind controls on keyboard first so a dead pad is not a soft lock.

Large-battle hitching is AI and physics. Lower the retinue you promote until the tick holds. That is an army choice, not a missing slider.

Instant Action versus campaign confusion

If you are looking for flags and tickets, you are in Instant Action. The campaign does not score that way. If you cannot find a yabusame track WSW of the homestead, that track was a demo Instant Action landmark. Stop walking west from the tutorial farm.

Where to report a real bug

Steam discussions have a pin: do not dump crash reports in General. Use the Common Issues thread, Steam’s official FAQ pin, and the Darkmatter Discord. This wiki is unofficial. We will not invent a patch ID that is not on Steam news. As of launch week the live play patch is vR101.

If you only needed one sentence: save the game, walk to the nearby homestead, and do not take a 21-man road fight with an unpacked camp.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for new warlords landing on Awaji.

Does Warlord: Awaji autosave?

Launch reviews say no. Save manually before fights and after the homestead. Cloud is not autosave.

Why will the tutorial not progress?

You are probably on the wrong settlement or outside 70 meters. Update to vR101 and follow getting started.

The first enemy army is larger than mine. Is that a bug?

Usually no. Save, form a line, and do not blob. See army and combat.

Where do I get materials for archers?

There is no Britannia-style harvest node for that. Bows are composition and captured kit. Read bow and cavalry.
